Colin has surpassed himself this year by winning a
SILVER
Medal at The International
Cake Show held at the NEC Birmingham on 14th - 15th November 2008. Earlier this year, The Wedding Cake Company
was
delighted to announce that Colin had won two Certificates of
Merit, the first at the
highly
esteemed International
Cake Show held at the NEC Birmingham on 11th November 2007,
the second at the very
prestigious Salon Culinaire International De Londres at
Hotelympia. Held on February 17th - 21st 2008
at ExCel London. However, this Silver award has made 2008 the
most successful year ever.
Colin's Silver Medal winning design was
influenced by the most flamboyant and frilly member of the
Orchid family, the Cattleya Orchid . The wedding cake is
a pure white double stacked round cake separated by elegant
plaster pillars. The design incorporates a very fine royal iced
filigree fabric design with fine dots representing pearls which
creates an arched border forming a beautiful backdrop panel to
showcase an exquisite single handmade sugar Orchid. Each Orchid
is pure white with a soft yellow centre of the throat
(labellum). The outer edges and tip of the tough, wing petals,
dorsal petals and lateral petals were coloured with African
Violet creating a soft but dramatic look to the whole cake. In
total there are 20 panels each with a delicate single sugar Cattleya Orchid in the centre. |
